Name: Aunamee, aka Ariel Knot
Age: 36
Appearance: A slight, unintimidating man who can disguise the emptiness behind his eyes with minimal effort. He has light brown hair and gray eyes. He exclusively wears white.
Background: the prophecy;

At age nine, Ariel Knot was recruited by an underground organization (NICKEL) who believed he was the chosen one. He bore the mark of a Potential, a deep gray splotch in his otherwise brown eyes. Prophecy held that once the current leader of the organization perished, that mark would fill his eyes with gray and he would develop spectacular abilities. Telepathy. Precognition. Immortality. This ordinary, socially awkward boy (who secretly ran over frogs with lawnmowers, who trapped and mutilated wild rabbits) was set to be humanity's savior.

His parents, a kind couple who were wholly unprepared to raise a child with a fondness for torturing animals, embraced NICKEL's vision, hoping that their son's strange behavior could be explained by the power brewing inside him. Although they were initially skeptical of the organization's claims, the supernatural abilities of their current leader -- Vincent -- were undeniable. Vincent could slice his own throat and drain the entirety of his blood without losing consciousness. He could narrate another person's thoughts verbatim. He could predict natural disasters, both small and large, with complete accuracy.

Eventually, Vincent's powers would wane and transfer to young Ariel. In the meantine, the organization taught Ariel how to fight (with his hands, with a gun, with a sword) in order to survive the foretold end of the world ("The year 2007," Vincent had said) and lead humanity to its next chapter.

the ambulance chaser;

Ariel's more sadistic nature did not go unnoticed, especially by the other members of the organization. He teased and lied and kept animal carcasses in ziplock bags. He was given intense counseling, but that only taught him how to feign regret and remorse. Instead of killing animals, he chased ambulances for the thrill of rubbernecking at the carnage. He learned to be polite and gentlemanly. He learned to be discrete.

And then he started developing his abilities.

They came slowly at first. He would find himself finishing sentences that other people never started. He would hear whispers in his ear. When he closed his eyes, he could feel the world moving forward. He knew how the prophecy went, how the current leader needed to die before he was allowed to become truly powerful. Fortunately, as Ariel was gaining his abilities, Vincent was losing his, the ebb so subtle that he didn't even recognize it. One night, Ariel asked Vincent to show off his neat throat trick again. So he did.

When Ariel returned home with news of Vincent's death, his clothing drenched in blood, his parents knew exactly what had happened. Frightened that their sadistic, deceitful son was now a demigod, they tried to poison him with a cup of hot chocolate. With his abilities fully developed, he saw through their plan immediately. After calmly drinking the poison (after all, he can no longer die), he trapped his parents in his bedroom and proceeded to torture them for seven straight days before making them drink the poison themselves. He was seventeen years old.

the reign;

Ariel took over NICKEL without much fanfare, changing his name to Aunamee, a play on the word "anomie." Vincent's death was largely viewed as an accident, and his parents' murders remained unsolved. Most people were willing to believe that Aunamee was a kind, well-mannered teenager destined to save them all -- and those who didn't were quietly eliminated. His telepathy gave him in an unfair advantage when it came to sniffing out rats. While Vincent was overly fond of redemption (he genuinely believed Aunamee could be rehabilitated before taking over), Aunamee took no chances, killing anyone who recognized his crueler nature. Over the years, Aunamee filled NICKEL with syncophants, sadists, and the willfully naive. It was no longer an organization dedicated to preserving the human race, but rather the cruel arm of a sociopath with far too much power.

the present;

Aunamee seeks out his Potentials and has them slaughtered. He blackmails CEOs and politicians. He predicts -- and causes -- disaster after disaster so that he can swoop in and befriend the survivors. He eagerly anticipates the end of the world, hoping to perhaps even bring it on himself.

CRAU: N/A

Personality: (cw: brief mention of self harm)

Aunamee is not an outwardly imposing man. He is not particularly tall nor large, and his face is more boyish than vicious. He conducts himself with a certain amount of dignity -- he is a gentleman that offers chairs and opens doors and frowns at distasteful jokes. There is something deeply paternal and protective about how he interacts with other people. He feigns sympathy and offers embraces. He interrupts arguments in defense of the people he considers friends. He is the kind of person who would answer frantic calls in the middle of the night with a lulling warmth. He is in many ways a "savior," and if one were only aware of these surface characteristics, it would be easy to mistake him for one.

But he's not. Aunamee basks in chaos, death, and suffering and gets no better thrill than knowing that he is responsible for it. He is a pure sadist. Watching others experience heightened emotions is like a drug to him. Positive emotions can also light that spark -- passion, determination, joy -- but they appeal to him so much more when they rise from the darkness and he is the one to bring them up.

Aunamee is also obsessed with maintaining control in both his own life and other's. He drives people toward certain behaviors and certain situations just to prove that he can. He uses telepathy (if he knows someone's thoughts, he knows what they want) and precognition (if he knows when someone will need him most, he can be there) to his advantage. He sees the world as a stage with himself as the director -- he needs to mess around with his actors, and if someone goes "off script," it's his duty to kill or correct them.

He applies these high standards to himself as well. Every movement he makes, every expression on his face has been practiced countless times in front of a mirror. He obsessively bleachs his clothing since he sees any lingering dirt as a sign of weakness. (For this reason, he only wears white.) He is outwardly poised, but inwardly chaotic.

When a situation slips out of his control, his facade crumbles into pure, unhinged rage. He is like a child flipping over a board game when his parents finally stop letting him win... except he's a grown man who would kill someone (and has) just to read their thoughts while they are dying. If he has no one to blame, he directs this anger inward, tearing out his hair until he's calm enough to proceed.

He's been worshipped his entire life, and with his abilities, he is effectively untouchable, a god among men -- because of this, he is dangerously overconfident.

Weaknesses/Temptations: He craves control, both in his environment (excessive cleanliness) and his relationships (murderous rage when defied). He's been known to succumb to flattery -- as well as good looking men. His emotions are dimmer than those of an average person, and the only way he can truly "feel alive" is by killing other people. He's also fond of feeling needed, loved, and admired, and will lie to obscure his more murderous nature, preferring for people to think of him as a hero.

Sins: Murder, sadism, lying, wrath, pride.

Powers/Abilities: Despite having a tremendous number of abilities in life, it's impossible for a Host like Aunamee to maintain their powers after death. Like the name implies, they are temporarily "hosting" the abilities. In fact, they're actually hosting a non-corporeal, non-speaking entity with a vested interest in keeping them alive -- hence why they can receive mortal injuries without dying, why they can read thoughts to sniff out betrayal, and why can see the future to avoid danger. Once the entity tires of its Host, it guides them towards death and jumps over to the next Potential, beginning the process anew.

Aunamee will therefore be completely powerless on arrival.

Items: A long, lovingly sharpened knife.
