Simply Aunamee is fine. It is a name I chose for myself long ago, and I still feel a small thrill when other people say it. But how thoughtful of you to ask.

Before I continue, it's important that I tell you something:

People will warn you about me.

I cannot blame you for that. The names we choose for ourselves often have far greater meaning than those given to us by others.

The one called Black Hat already has. He claims that you are a fanatic of some kind. But aren't we all for the things about which we are most passionate?

With every word you say, my dear Doctor, I'm finding myself more and more fond of you.

Yes. I'm a passionate man, particularly regarding cleanliness and order. There is little I won't do to achieve these aims.

You are not the only one.

I too find myself ever at odds with entropy. It's refreshing to learn that I am not alone in my fight against it. I assume then that his lack of appreciation for you means that Black Hat prefers chaos and disorder.

He thrives on it. If he had his way, the entire peninsula be reduced to ashes, the unlucky survivors forced to lick at his boots.

There are other people who will warn you about me. Unlike Black Hat, they're well-meaning, but misguided. They'll call me a vicious murderer. A psychopath.

I'm just willing to do what is necessary to keep this peninsula clean.

It seems to me that we were brought here to this place for the express purpose of being vicious murderers. Many have told me that the Fog God brings us here and changes us so that we can better exterminate the humans she so despises. Pointing fingers at one person for doing what we are all meant to do reeks of hypocrisy.

I have known a number of psychopaths. I have known my share of murderers as well. The words do not have the weight these well-meaning hypocrites likely wish them to have.

How is it that you know exactly what to say, dear Doctor? You charm me with every word.

Tell me more about your appreciation for pain. I'm all ears.

Pain makes people interesting. It's where we find ourselves. And each other. You can learn a great deal about someone who is suffering. What they value, what they don't, where the lies end and the truth begins.

Great works of art have been made because of it. And with it.

What is it about pain that fascinates you?

The exact same thing.

There's nothing I love more than watching a person at the end of their rope. They're at their most human in those moments. Raw and perfect.

It's a pity that they cannot remain that way, isn't it? Sometimes, I've managed to immortalize the experience, though not nearly as often as I might have liked.

How do you find this world and the people within it? Exciting or disappointing?

The same as anywhere else. Some people are magnificent. Others are simply stains waiting to be blotted out.

What about you?

Largely disappointing. I've never known true monsters to quail at what they are, yet these do. What I experienced at the auction suggests that the humans are by and large more monstrous.

Perhaps you have yet to meet the right monsters, my dear friend.
